Haneda Airport (HND)

Tokyo, Japan, Japan — what to expect on the ground before, between and after flights.

Airport overview

Haneda ground transport

Official information checked September 23, 2026. These are indicative rail times to different stations, so they are not like-for-like hotel arrival times. Add terminal access, waiting, onward changes and the hotel walk. Check the exact service and travel date before relying on a last departure.

HND Terminal 3: KeikyuShinagawa: 11 minutes by Rapid Express; around 20 by other express servicesUseful for changing to JR services; verify the train’s destination.

If you miss the last useful train

Look up the full journey, including your onward connection, after the time you expect to collect bags. If it no longer works, compare an authorized road transfer with a confirmed airport-area room. Confirm vehicle capacity, the total quote and the hotel’s late check-in arrangement. Do not assume the terminal shuttle means city trains also run overnight.

Terminals and layout

Haneda has three terminals. A free shuttle connects the terminals, and an underground walkway links Terminals 1 and 2. Follow the official transfer guide for your flight pair; an international flight is not automatically a Terminal 3 flight. Confirm baggage collection, arrival procedures and the next check-in requirement with the airline.

Connections and transfers

Read the airport code on every Tokyo flight. HND and NRT are separate airports, and a change between them needs a ground transfer and a new airport process. Ask the seller to explain the ticket arrangement before choosing an itinerary with an airport change.

Ground transport

Haneda is connected to the Keikyu railway and Tokyo Monorail. Compare the full route to your hotel, including the station where you change and the final exit. For late arrivals, check the remaining services and a fallback for a delayed flight.

Nearby hotels

Choose an airport-area hotel only after confirming terminal access and room hours. If you intend to continue into Tokyo, compare the cost of that overnight stay with a later transfer to your city accommodation.

Family facilities

Keep the first transfer manageable with bags and children. Save the hotel address, ask about room access, and avoid a tightly timed activity immediately after landing. Confirm equipment requests with the airline.

Accessibility

Arrange flight assistance with the airline and check accessible transport for the hotel journey. Identify elevators and transfer points in advance instead of relying on the shortest walking route in a general map.

Airport questions

Three hours before departure is a common planning baseline for long-haul international travel, but confirm your airline's published recommendation and allow more time during peak periods.

Most large gateways have airport-area hotels, and several offer shuttle service. Confirm shuttle hours directly with the hotel if you arrive late at night.
